Dance is art. It's movement. And just like Melissa, a form of expression.

This is the idea on which we based Dance Machine, our Fall/Winter 2016 collection.

Instinct, connection and communication. An instructor at Pineapple StudioMadeleine Gerosa talks with us and reveals what's really behind dance.

“The movement allows the body to express something that maybe everyday talk just can't translate.”

1. What does your body say - or wanna say - through dance?

I am a strong, confident, intelligent, creative and sexy woman!

2. Do you think dance is inherent in the human being? Kind of like something instinctive?

Absolutely! I always tell my students that we coordinate our movement every day just by getting up and walking and that's something that humans do naturally. Add music to the mix and we can't help but to get creative and turn our everyday movement into something more artistic... Dance!

3. Do you think that dance can help people to connect with each other? Is it a good way to unite different groups of people?

Dance is a language and a fantastic way to communicate. The movement allows the body to express something that maybe everyday talk just can't translate. It helps people connect as they tend to 'let go' and gain a confidence perfect for expressing themselves and communicating that expression to others.

4. As in a verbal speech, can dance reflect the real personality of someone?

Most definitely. A way a person dances is like their signature. Dynamic, soft, fluid, sharp. Dancing is a wonderful art form to showcase your personality or how you may be feeling or what you want to say.

5. Each dance modality is unique. It has the ability to communicate a thought, a creed, or make a statement. Do you think each rhythm helps you to express yourself in a different way?

Yes and yes! Exactly like when you talk depending on how your feeling you might start to shout or ramble or whisper. I feel with Dance and rhythm you can be even more visceral allowing the body to break free and let the emotions flow.

6. Personally, which one is your favorite?

I can't pick one. I love the soft and fluid as much as the strong and dynamic. As I said before it really depends on your mood or what your feeling at that moment that's going to help make the dance authentic.

7. Is there a dancer that you admire, who you believe uses dance as an extension of their voice?

There are many but two really stand out for me:

Tamara Rojo - When I watch her dance I see this amazing strong, powerful competent, fiery Woman

Liza Minnelli - Likewise when she dances I feel this immense vulnerability like she is literally pulling her whole heart out for that one performance and asking people to love her.
