“I remember the moment when I bought my first pair of Melissa shoes in the 90’s like it was yesterday. This moment was the start of a big bubblegum-scented love story.”

Love at first sight. That's how Sara Streule defines her relationship with Melissa. The graphic designer works in a branding and communication agency. But in her spare time, you can find her at saraisinlovewith.com.

“I believe that design, art, and fashion are closely connected.”

Straight from her balcony in Zurich (“where the sun was shining so much”), Sara told us her story – which we loved!

My looks are colourful and quirky just like Melissa.

1. Which Melissa did you first fall in love with?

Ultragirl flats in neon green. I was fascinated by the bright colour, liked the material and of course their smell. They reminded me of Barbie shoes.

They are still in my closet, and whenever I see them, they bring back sweet memories and make me smile.

2. Melissa is a renowned love brand. Why do you think Melissa collects so many fans?

Melissa makes shoes, but I think for me and many others it's more than a shoe labelAs soon as you buy your first pair, you turn into a collector. I love the close connection of the label to art and that Melissa works with the most amazing designers such as Vivienne Westwood, Jeremy Scott or Gareth Pugh.

"I don't know any other shoe or accessory brand with a signature scent and believe it's part of what makes Melissa unique."

3. When you smell our “bubblegum-scented plastic dreams”, as you yourself described, what comes to mind?

It's a scent that must come from a place where unicorns with rainbow manes dance on fluffy candyfloss clouds. I don't know any other shoe or accessory brand with a signature scent and believe it's part of what makes Melissa unique. My shoe cabinet is right at the entrance of the flat, so visitors who come here for the first time often ask about the bubblegum scent.

4. Do you have any idea how many pairs of Melissas you have in the closet? Which is your favorite model?

I think I have between 20 and 30 pairs. I love every single one. It's hard to decide for a favorite, but I think the futuristic Zaha Hadid shoes are something very special. While I wear most of my Melissa shoes, those are only exhibited on my shelf. I don't want them to get dirty or damaged. I got them as a leaving gift from the design studio where I worked in London.

"Individuality and the liberty of expressing myself through what I wear are crucial to me. And I feel that Melissa shares those ideals."

5. You used to live in London, right? Have you ever been to our Galeria UK?

Recently I visited the Galeria Melissa in London and had the best afternoon taking a bath in the bubble pool installation inspired by the Inflatable Dreams collection of Jeremy Scott. No other shop offers an experience like this, and it makes me Melissa love even more.

6. You have a very extravagant, cool style. How do you think that Melissa complements it?

Oh, thank you! My looks are colourful and quirky just like Melissa. You could say that fashion is my favorite game, and I love to play a lot with the things in my wardrobe. Individuality and the liberty of expressing myself through what I wear are crucial to me. And I feel that Melissa shares those ideals.
